Every month I usually have this spot reserved for interviewing some new hot underground band I think is in need of recognition, however, this month I decided to do something a little different... I decided to hit the streets to ask various folk who I believe have good taste, what they are currently listening to now... Here goes: Frankie De La Torre, (San Gabriel, CA) Lead guitarist and vocalist for surf band The Volcanics: There isn't really anything "modern" that i am into. however, the Infrareds came out w/ a new album this year...they are probably one of my top 3 favorite surf bands along with "Jackie and the Cedrics" and the "Ghastly Ones"...there are only so many bands that do it right. No one plays faster then them and they are alot of fun to watch. They are just normal down to earth guys playin' the most rippin' surf music around. Rory is a great guitarist and is intense. They recently had to replace their long time drummer (Matt) after 5 yrs or so after he left the band this year...but from what i hear, they are close to begin playing shows again. Their new album is called "Recorded on Microfilm". They are from the Monterey area in California.
As far as what is on my turntable....haha, an old Desmond Dekker compilation that my brother made me is in my car and in my computer is Mary Wells...
